Hi there,
I just want to give you my recommendations:
1. The I5-2500k is an excellent match with the z68 MOBO. you can get the I5-2500k for only $180 at microcenter:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0354589
2. The Caviar black is much better.
3. If you wanted to play games decently, then try to get a much better graphics card like the Sapphire Radeon HD6850 which is only $145 at newegg. You could play games with this card at high-max settings depending on your resolution.
4. But if you have the extra budget, then what I really recommend is the gtx 560 ti 448 cores which is $290 at newegg. This card will enable you to play all games at max settings on 1080p resolution. It is just a little bit slower than the gtx 570 but much cheaper and has excellent overclocking capability that it can be much faster than the stock speed of a gtx 570.
5. Power requirement: HD 6850 : 500w – PSU needed at least 600w +80 Corsair
GTX 560 ti 448 cores : 550w – PSU needed at least 650w +80 corsair
My $60 E2220 dual core and $320 (four year old) 8800GTS can play Crysis 2 on maaaaximum setttings.
Yours will do fine, that thing is a little overkill for what people release. You’ll be able to tweak games to look very good, but it certainly will be a little expensive for just "high quality" especially when only a few games really try to push your system.
If you can afford it, treat her with respect and she’ll last you many years with that power. I wouldn’t even try overclocking that thing, disappointing reduction in life (my 8800 blew a little while ago because of OC’ing)
I’m just going to give you some general advice here rather than critiquing all of your items right away. In no particular order…
1. Make sure your PSU has enough wattage and enough amps on your 12V rail.
2. Make sure your RAM is compatible with your Motherboard (check the manual on the manufacturers site before you buy).
3. Don’t buy a really great CPU and a crappy GFX card or vice versa (bottlenecking).
4. If you’re buying a graphics card you don’t need a motherboard with integrated graphics (lower cost).
5. Consider your future upgrades, is your board crossfire ready…can it support 6 core CPUs? Things to consider.
6. Also, if you’re asking for advice on building a computer avoid water cooling there are plenty of good heatsinks out there.
That’s a few tips off the top of my head for you. Now, by looking at your builds I can see that you just threw a bunch of expensive stuff on your wishlist which isn’t necessary. People shop at newegg for mainly the reviews, READ THEM! You need to establish a price range for your build and work from there. A 6850 is a good graphics card and a 2500k is good as well, these would do well together, but I suspect you can do better by taking your time and looking for other cheaper products that have good reviews. Scrap the watercooling, find a cheaper PSU…things like that can help you get a better CPU and GPU which is what counts in gaming.
If you are going to overclock a 6-core processor, then go (very carefully) with watercooling, keep in mind what a leak will cost you, not to mention a failed pump. If you are just going with a quad core then you don’t need to run the risk. Also, all that power and memory are a waste if you’re only going with one hard drive. Why not get 3 500GB drives and set up a RAID 5? Make sure you get SATA 6Gb/s drives at 7200 RPM if you really want to run fast and safe. Never go with less than 8GB RAM if you’re going to game.
